Week 5 — a lilac floret, at your baby’s true size: 0.2 cm (0.1 in), crown to rump.

How big is the baby at 5 weeks?

About 0.2 cm (0.1 in), measured crown to rump — the size of a lilac floret.1

The nervous system is developing, with the brain and spinal cord taking shape, while the heart begins to form. The placenta is also developing to exchange oxygen, nutrients, and waste as pregnancy continues.

5 weeks pregnant is how many months?

Week 5 falls in the second month of pregnancy. Weeks and months don’t divide evenly, and your antenatal care counts in weeks — so Zohra keeps weeks, and prints the month for the relatives who ask.

That puts you in the first trimester (weeks 1–13).

What might you be noticing?

Many people still do not know they are pregnant at week 5. Tiredness, nausea, breast tenderness, a metallic taste, and new food likes or dislikes can appear.1

Let easy foods be easy; keep a few familiar options close by. If you are saving the moment, write down where you were when this week first felt real—or note that it does not feel real yet.

For the record: What did you want to remember before the details began to blur? — this week’s page in the app asks the same thing. All forty prompts are here.
